#3 SCALA

Python and R may be touted as the best programming languages for a big data project, but other programming languages should not be overlooked.  Running on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), Scala combines many advantages of other programming languages into one tight, intuitive tool. These days, Scala is making huge strides in the corporate and finance world that deal with large amounts of massively distributed data. Big enterprises like LinkedIn and Twitter are making the most out of Scala, since it is quite useful for large data sets. You might not know that this powerful programming language drives both Spark and Kafka.
